I love other people's junk!!

The babies and I went out on Friday to do a little bargain hunting. We hit a few different places while we were out; Hidden Treasures, The Bowling Alley Flea Market, and a some random yard sales. Here are some of our finds!

Hidden Treasures

They had a sale on purses, $1 each!! I got 2 Victoria's Secret purses, a knock-off Vera Bradley, Bath & Body Works straw bag, striped bag and a brand new with tags straw handbag from Langs.

I got this Pittsburgh Penguins Jersey for Genin. It was marked $3, but everything in the store except furniture was half off so I scored it for only $1.50!!

Regular price on this was only 50 cents to begin with, but with the 1/2 everything, I got this Ansco roll film vintage plastic camera for only 25 cents!! Am planning on decorating one of my rooms in old cameras so I was tickled pink to find this :)

Anyone realize how much Gooseberry Patch books are at regular price? I got this "Celebrate the Season" 1/2 off of the the regular hardback book price of 50 cents for only 25 cents. It has a ton of ideas for recipes, crafts, etc...

The Bowling Alley Flea Market

I found a lady here that actually wasn't a vendor for a change. She had just been cleaning out and had some great items and great prices. I got this Medium sized off-white cream barrel for $3. I plan on replacing some items in my upper level bathroom and this will go great!!

The same lady had this gorgeous white w/silver trim bowl (she has it filled with potpourri). It was a great gift for her from Bath & Body Works, but secondhand will go nice in my bathroom alongside the barrel.

I have no idea the worth of this Kodak Instamatic camera and the guy wanted $5 for it. I decided to pass and he reeled me back in by knocking off a buck. All I know is that I got another vintage camera for my collection to decorate with...$4 is good with me :)

I could not believe that this cool veggie tray was Tupperware! It is made of the hard plastic, has an indented design including on the dip bowl so you can have 2 different dips and it sits right down on the bend in the center. Awesome find!

Excited for this coming weekend to do it all over again :)

Our Week in Review 9/20/10-9/26/10

Another week has passed and might I say, this month has just flown by!

The kids magazine sale ended this week and we are proud to say that we sold 6 subscriptions this year as a whole. May not seem like a lot, but for us it is. Thanks to those who got new subscriptions or renewals to help support our kids :)

I began taking a Zumba class this week. I am not huge on exercising and usually do not go beyond my Wii Fit Plus, but something drew me to this class....maybe it was the bargain price of only $5 for the class! It kept me moving the whole hour and I felt great by the time I left. I expected to be hurting the next day, but I wasn't at all. Coaching cheerleading must have kept me in better shape than I thought....yahoo!

The kids had their school pictures this week and I am happy to announce that they all did well. Last year Kaplyn got hot in the little jacket I put on her and decided to take it off before the picture and expose the stain on the undershirt she was wearing for the pic....doh!!! Makes me talk like Homer Simpson just thinking about it!!

**Likes**

Little Debbie Petites Yellow Cake!!

I bought a box of these for $1.25 at Shop N Save and I must say, they are delicious! Only 3 grams of fat and you get that nice little bit of cake that is so worth it (especially when you are trying to get weight off by taking Zumba classes!)

Pyramid by Charise featuring Iyaz. I heard this song months ago on Teen Nick and fell in love with it, but never heard it again. I looked it up on YouTube and fell in love all over again :)

A Tribute

My Grandma Martin would have been 95 years old this past Tuesday, we lost her just last month. One of my best rememberances when going to visit my grandma was stepping off of the elevator, making a right and seeing her door with its cute little wreath, slightly open waiting for us. Though the door was open, my brother would always lift the knocker and let it fall (I remember the knocker bouncing a few times when it fell) then I would hear her little old lady italian voice say "Hello". I miss her immensely every day that something reminds me that she is gone. Love to you in heaven....

I made a trip to the grocery store for a weekly coupon visit. I did very well and will blog seperate so you can see all of my great deals :)

I fixed one new recipe this week for French Fish Filets. You can find the recipe on another of my blogs: dede-kneadarecipe.blogspot.com

Sports this weekend were kind of grim. BC played Monessen in Football. Kaplyn and the girls did their best cheering, but we still had a 12-6 loss. What a haul just from the parking lot to that stadium...my back was hurting from carrying 16 water bottles packed in ice!!!

The boys played at Baldwin Whitehall. I really realized what it is like when someone says a team plays dirty. They were shoving our kids, cussing at them, etc...I was so glad to see our kids not taking it and defending themselves by shoving back though it was a shame it had to get like that. I will tell you though...their opponents better watch their stuff...you mess with my kids and you mess with me!! It was the first game ever that I thought there may possibly have been a fist fight on the field. Lets hope that our next opponents have been brought up right by their parents...what is going on in the world today?!

Boo...Dislikes

As the leaves continued to fall, we realized that it was finally time to close the pool. Since we have a heater and the pool is in-ground, we are used to swimming up until October 1. However, this year, the leaves came a little quicker than Greg could keep up with them. Luckily the hot tub will remain open through the winter :)

See you next week!

Please excuse me...I am a few weeks behind...

I am a few weeks behind on calendar blogging. Sorry.... :)

So, school this year has started out great for the kids. Their first day was August 30 and they were roaring and ready. Isn't it humorous how they are ready to go to school, but give it about a month and they are asking when summer vacation is?! Cameron started 7th grade and has 7 classes, Genin started 4th grade and ended up with Mrs. LaBrasca, who is the same 4th grade teacher Cameron had, and Kaplyn is in 2nd grade with Mrs. Vuono who was Cameron's 5th grade math teacher. Kaplyn hasn't had an opportunity to have Mrs. Vuono yet, however. She just had a baby and will be out until December so until then, Kaplyn is enjoying Mrs. Snodgrass, the permanent substitute teacher :)

We missed the Clarksburg Italian Heritage Festival again this year. Sadly, due to sports, that looks the way that it will be for awhile. Kaplyn is a BC Tiny Mite cheerleader again this year and her football games are on Saturday mornings. Their first game was a loss, but we do have a lot of newbies on the team. I took on Kaplyn's cheerleading squad as head coach this year. After training as a co-head last year, I was excited to take on the challenge. I am also team mom again and as a whole, it is a lot of work!! I have to schedule and hold practices, collect fundraiser money, paint break through signs, make phone calls, print newsletters, announce half time, and all-in-all do anything that a coach does...and I wouldn't it trade it for anything. I absolutely love it!!

This is my 2010 BC Tiny Mite squad getting ready to perform at half time.

On a sad note, September 5 brought us 6 years without my brother Chad who passed in a car accident Labor Day weekend of 2004. We miss him like it happened yesterday. On a lighter note, we celebrated his birthday on September 7 like we always do. He would be 36 years old this year which still makes him older than me ;)

Saturday the 11th brought another football game. We played on an astro-turf field and won an awesome game!!

BC was at Southmoreland for soccer and it was played on the football field so our kids looked like ants from the stadium seating. Our first game was a loss, but the team always plays well together and it takes some getting used to after being on those smaller fields. They moved up to U13 this year.

Cameron had a tooth pulled after school last week. He was so nervous!! He said that the numbing ended up hurting worse than the pull. Sadly, once the numbing wore off, it caused him a massive headache. Luckily he was only out of school for one day.

September 14 kicked off the 2010/2011 PTA. I am the secretary again this year and will continue to chair boxtops, Campbell's labels and pop tabs. I also became the publisher for the Beth-Center PTA Press which is a newsletter that we sound out a week before the meetings. We had an awesome turn out for the first meeting, might have even been the biggest we have ever had. I just hope that it stays this way!!

Genin tried out for drums and did very well! He also played the saxophone and trumpet just for fun and surprisingly did well on both of those too. Genin is drums all the way though! Just like his daddy, he is always pounding on anything he is near. I am tickled that I am going to have a drummer for a son :)

Last week, we had Open House to meet the teachers. There was quite a turnout and our PTA threw in an extra "bonus" fundraiser...a Chinese auction. We had 44 items total to be auctioned including gift cards, baskets, Steelers items and more! It was a first time on this fundraiser and I have a feeling it won't be the last!

Friday, all 3 school age kids were sick :( After taking them to the doctor, the results were in: Cameron with tonsillitis, Genin with a severe eye allergy and Kaplyn with a bug that we think she may have passed through the night...at least after changing 2 sets of sheets...yuck!!

This past weekend was another sporty one. Kaplyn was at home playing California. We won 18-6! I had to work the concession which I always love doing. I never understand why there are so many people that complain about concessions?! I think I am just a natural born salesperson! I worked the window, fixing everything from walking tacos to nachos and cheese. Then, when the hot dog wrapper didn't show up...I did that too!

We made it an easy night for dinner and did "Potluck Pantry". I learned about this from a high school friend and it is just a mix of things that have been sitting in your pantry or fridge that you just cook without any theme to the meal!

We had Texas barbecue pork loins, Parmesan crusted pork loin, Kraft homestyle macaroni and cheese, buttered soy brown rice, beets and Pillsbury flaky biscuits. We even had biscuits left over so Greg made us all Country biscuits and gravy for breakfast!

Soccer was at home on the high school soccer field. We did very well until the 2nd half when they came back at us with a vengeance!! Our loss was 3-2, we held our own :)

Check out the highlights!!

Coyote!!!

Ever try to get your kid to come in out of the dark by telling them that if they are out there any longer the coyotes will eat them?! Give it a few seconds and make a strange noise out a dark window?! Watch your kids come flying in the house so fast that they leave skid marks across the driveway.....and possibly in their pants..... :)

"Crazy Noun Day" #2

The King Family had another fun filled "Crazy Noun Day". The nouns picked this time around were:

Cameron: Actor
Genin: Baseball
Kaplyn: School
Reiner: Chicken Tender
Brandis: Present

It always takes a little bit of time to figure out the day around random nouns, but this time it was a little easier. Check out our day!!

The day started off with Brandis' noun: Present. I handed the kids their first envelope which stated that "Everyone loves presents...especially when you get one and it isn't even your birthday".

Luckily, I buy gifts ahead of time and had quite a few on hand to choose from. Each child received a shirt and a book...

...except Matlyn who received a teddy bear :)

The next noun was from Kaplyn: School. The envelope held the instructions and destination; "Take a good look at the school while you ride around for 1 hour on your scooters or play on the playground :)

Reiner and Kaplyn race around the playground area on their scooters...

Brandis takes a break from his juice box to say "cheese" to Mommy!

I took this pic of Kaplyn without even looking...just put the camera in front of my waist area and snapped!

(Got one of Brandis too!)

Genin takes off during a race with Cameron.

Check out my hair after coming down the slide...not to mention my legs got shocked the whole way down...I almost electrocuted Kaplyn when I touched her. For goodness sake! Can't we bring back those wonderful metal slides?!

Next noun, Reiner's: Chicken Tender. We headed to Country Fresh Market for the most awesome chicken tenders ever!

I have no idea why Reiner always closes one eye when he poses?!

4th noun: Baseball

We decided to go "foodie" with this one! What better way to use this "All American" noun than with some baseball stadium food! Hot dogs, chili cheese fries and Pepsi :) Greg and I made the food and I also drew red laces on the white cups to resemble baseballs...

Cameron shows off his stadium meal :)

Last stop for the night: The King Theater. Cameron chose "Actor" as his noun so we popped some popcorn, added some ranch, kettle, butter and nacho cheddar toppings and threw in one of my all-time fave movies:

Drop Dead Fred!! (If you read this blog Candice, a big arm up to ya!) I only have this on VHS so you can image the picture quality. We really did it up old school!

I think we spent all of $10 for this whole day of activities! Another crazy end to another crazy day...what will we think of next!!?
