Soap Making!!

My 10 year old son, Genin got a soap making kit in his stocking from his Meemaw this year. He had a blast making the bug themed soap!

Cutting up the glycerin soap to melt for the mold.

His finished insect soap :)

The wonderful thing about soap making is that it isn't hard at all. Though Genin's items came in a pack with directions, you can easily do this without the pack.

Buy a bar of glycerin soap (they come in all colors at Michael, AC Moore, etc...)

Slice off a rectangle from the end of the block about 1/2 inch thick.

Cut it into little squares. Melt in microwave safe bowl in the microwave for 15 seconds at medium power.

Stir up and immediately pour half into a small mold (ours was a round mold for small soaps around 1/2 inch deep)

Place any small object in the center and press down firmly (this kit came with rubber spiders)

Pour the rest of the glycerin in the mold careful not to overfill it.

Place in the refrigerator or freezer for 5 minutes.

Turn the mold over on the counter and press firmly around all the edges. The soap should pop right out. If you have trouble, run some hot water over the underside of the mold to loosen it.

Voila! You could even wrap the newly made soap in clear saran wrap and attached a small ribbon to give as a gift!
